Spotted Gums colour varies from pale grey browns and soft creams to a rich chocolate brown. A very tough timber, its frequent wavy grain can produce an attractive and highly valued fiddleback effect.
Hardness Janka rating 11.0
Iron Bark
The timber is heavy, hard and compact. The heartwood of Ironbark ranges from light grey or light chocolate with some darker reds and browns occuring. The sapwood is slightly lighter in colour.
Hardness Janka rating 14.0
Blackbutt is a commonly grown hardwood that has attractive colouring from cream to pale brown and an occasional tinge of pink.
Hardness Janka rating 9.1
The timber colour is either a yellowish-brown or dark brown in colour, darkening on exposure to light. In exterior situations it weathers slowly to a silvery-grey colour.
Hardness Janka rating 8.6

The janka rating is the result of a test to measure the density and resistance of wood to denting or breakage. The test measures the force
required to embed a steel ball 11mm thick to half of its diameter into the timber. Janka ratings are recorded in kilonewtons (kN) so the higher
the rating the more resistant to denting and wear the timber is.
